Defence methods at Iraq’s Ain al-Asad air base, which hosts U.S. forces, shot down a drone close to the bottom on Sunday, with Iraqi army sources and the U.S.-led worldwide army coalition providing confliciting accounts of the incident.
The U.S.-led worldwide army coalition mentioned in an announcement that it had carried out “an operational train … that concerned partaking an Unmanned Aerial System” at Ain al-Asad base as a part of a coaching train.
Nevertheless, the Iraqi army sources prompt the drone could have had hostile intent, saying it was not clear whether or not it was on a surveillance mission or if it was carrying any explosives.
No damages or casualties have been reported, the sources added.
The mission of the worldwide army coalition is to combat Islamic State militants in Iraq and in Syria.
